These photographs are the result of a wonderful rescue mission. My friends, the Kang family, were exploring very old traditional South Korean homes that were about to be demolished to make way for new subdivisions. While exploring the old homes for the last time, they came across boxes of old books and documents. The books were a great find, as many of them were records of deceased family members, including the amount of money that neighboring families contributed to the grieving families. The fact that the books were written using Chinese characters instead of the present day Korean script also dates the books, and increases their historical significance. The books are believed to be 150 to 200 years old.
